INFORMATION/REMARKS ON THE MUSICAL WORK

"CHIAROSCURO" Work for Bass Recorder, Electronic media, and Motion Sensor.

Dedicated to Anna Margules.

Composer: Ricardo Duran Barney.

"CHIAROSCURO" is a piece inspired by the famous painting "Salomé with the Head of John the Baptist" (Madrid) by the renowned artist Caravaggio. The work Chiaroscuro explores the concept of the pictorial technique of the same name, used by Caravaggio, characterized by the contrast between lights and shadows, with extremely dark backgrounds that fade away, against which the figures, brightly illuminated, stand out. In this context, the Bass Recorder, with its warm and deep timbre, becomes the main protagonist of the work, while the electronics manipulated by the performer's movements provide an outline, creating shadows, dark nuances, and luminous bursts.
